The Template Editor
The Template Editor is where you can manage and refine templates over time. It gives you a dedicated place to edit templates in a structured way, keep everything organized in one place, and publish updates when you are ready, so anyone who uses the template starts with the latest version.
Create your template
Create a board template
You can turn a board into a template in a few clicks. From the board, select the three-dot menu in the top right of the board header, select More actions, and then select Save as a template:
Create a template with multiple elements
If you have a workspace with multiple components you want to reuse, you can save the entire workspace as a template. To do this, select the three-dot menu to the right of the workspace name in the left pane, and then select Save as template:
Move or duplicate the origin
When you save a board as a template, you can decide what happens to the original board. You can move it to the Template center so it only appears there, or you can duplicate it so it appears both in the Template center and in the left pane.
Choose template type
After choosing whether to move or duplicate the origin board, you will be prompted to choose between a Standard Template and a Managed Template.
Set template privacy
After selecting the template type, you can make the template public or private. This controls who can use (install) the template.
Private templates are visible to all account members but can only be used by specific team members invited by the template owner on the template members page.
Team members who aren’t added as template members will see a greyed-out Edit in a new tab button along with a Request to join option when finding a private template in the template center. Clicking Request to join will notify the template owner for approval. Once access is granted, team members will be able to use the template.
Open the Template center
After you save a board or workspace as a template, it may be removed from the left pane if you chose not to duplicate the origin. You can find it again from the Template center or with quick search.
To open the Template center, select the + icon in the left pane, and then select Template center. You can also access the Template center by customizing the top left pane menu.
The Template center is where you can manage and edit all of your templates.
Find monday vibe apps in the Template center
In addition to standard templates, the Template center includes a dedicated area for monday vibe apps under General templates. This section is designed to help you discover suggested vibe apps that you can use as a starting point when you want to build a custom app quickly.
To find them, look under General templates, and select Vibe apps included.
Edit your template
From the Template center, you can search for a template by name or select templates created by me. Once you find the template, select Edit in a new tab to open it in the Template Editor and start customizing.
Delete or remove a template
If you no longer need a template, you can delete it or move it back to a workspace.
If you delete a template, it is removed from your account, but you can still find it in the archive if you decide to restore it later. If you move it to a workspace, it is removed from the Template center and moved back into your workspace.
To do this, open the Template center, select the three-dot menu next to the template name, and then select Delete.
If you move a template to a workspace, you will be redirected to a newly created workspace with the same name as the template, and it will contain the boards and documents that were included.
The Template Editor layout
Edit the name of your template
The template name appears at the top left of the editor. Select it to rename the template:
Exit the editor
The Template editor opens in a new browser tab. When you finish editing, you can close the tab, or you can select the product switcher icon in the top right of the header to navigate elsewhere.
Edit your template structure
The left panel shows all boards, dashboards, and workdocs included in the template. Installing the template installs this structure. To add additional elements, select Add to template.
Publish your changes
When your updates are ready, select Publish changes to make them available for others to use.
Publish your changes
After editing, select Publish changes in the top right of the editor.
After you publish, the updates are saved to the template for future use.
Who can edit my template?
The person who creates the template is the template owner by default, and they can edit and publish changes. Board members of the original templated boards also become template editors for those components, and the template owner can add more people as template members.
To manage this, select the three-dot menu in the top right of the editor and then select Invite members. Template members can edit, but they cannot publish changes. Template owners can publish, and the owner can promote someone by selecting the blue crown next to their name.
What will happen to existing templates?
Templates created before the Template Editor remain as they are. They stay in the left pane and can be edited directly from there. The Template Editor is available for newly created templates only.
Limitations
The template editor is not available on our mobile app and through our monday API.
