The trash section
The Trash section in monday.com lets you recover deleted boards, workspaces, and items in just a few clicks. It keeps your data safe by storing deleted content for a limited time before permanent removal. Use it to quickly restore work and avoid losing important information.
Accessing the Trash section
To access the trash section:
1Click on your profile picture in the top right corner
2Click on Trash as shown below:
All deleted items, subitems, columns, groups, boards, docs, and dashboards will be stored in the trash section for 30 days unless you choose to restore them or delete them permanently. After the 30 day period, items cannot be restored.
How it works
In the trash section, you can view any deleted items, subitems, columns, groups, boards, docs, and dashboards. For each one of these, you will be able to see:
- The name
- Type (item, subitem, column, group, board, doc, or dashboard)
- Where it was deleted from
- Who it was deleted by
- When it was deleted
Restore or permanently delete something
To restore anything from the trash section:
1 Select one or more items from the left side
2 Click on Restore from the menu pane that will pop up on the bottom of the screen
You can also restore an individual item by clicking on the three-dot menu to the right and click on Restore.
To permanently delete something:
1 Select one or more items from the left side
2 Click on on Delete Permanently from the menu pane that will pop up on the bottom of the screen.
You can also delete an individual item by clicking on the three-dot menu to the right and click on Delete permanently.
Filter data shown in the trash section
If you have many boards, items, subitems, and workdocs located in your trash section and you're looking to narrow down the results shown so you can find exactly what you need, you can use the filter option to help out.
Select which deleted objects will be displayed according to their type, date they were archived, or board name, so you can find exactly what you need. To do this, click on the Filter button on the top left and select the parameters that you'd like to filter by.
How board permissions affect content shown in the trash
Board Ownership
If the board is set to the "Only owners can change" permission and you are not an owner, you will not see deleted items from this board in the trash section. Check out this article to learn more.
Hidden Columns
If you’ve deleted a column that had the Hide Column permissions enabled on it, users that didn't have permission to see the column on the board will not see it in the trash section. You can read this article to learn more about hiding columns.
Viewing permissions
If you had viewing permissions to a board when it was active, you will be able to view it within the trash section. However, if you did not have access to a board (for example, if it was a Private Board that you were not subscribed to) it will not be visible to you within the trash section either.
Editing permissions
Similarly, if you had editing permissions to a board, you'll be able to restore it from the trash section within 30 days of it being deleted. However, if you did not have editing permissions to a board while it was active, you will not be able to restore it from the trash section.
